Bilingual Venezuelan Actress · NYC
A resident member of the company since November 2000: twelve productions, six awards, and four shows on stage this season at New York's Spanish-language theatre.
Repertorio Español is an Off-Broadway theatre company in Manhattan that presents plays from Spain, Latin America and the Hispanic United States. Producer Gilberto Zaldívar and artistic director René Buch founded it in 1968, and since 1972 it has played at the Gramercy Arts Theatre on East 27th Street, a building the company owns.
Its repertoire runs from Golden Age classics and García Lorca to Latin American novels adapted for the stage and new work by Hispanic American playwrights. It has produced more than 250 plays and holds a 2011 Obie Award for lifetime achievement and a 1996 Drama Desk special award. Since 1980 it has also staged zarzuelas and musical programs.
The company works as a true repertory ensemble: several productions run on alternating dates through the season, often with the same actors moving between them. Most performances are in Spanish with English translation for non-Spanish speakers.
Gredivel Vásquez joined Repertorio Español in November 2000 and has worked as a resident actress there ever since. She has played leads and supporting roles for three of the company's directors in particular: founding artistic director René Buch, Jorge Alí Triana and José Zayas.
Her work there has earned the 2025 Premios Talía for Best Actress in a Drama, three HOLA Awards and two ACE Awards. The full list of stage and screen credits is on her résumé.
